Overview

AidKit, a social enterprise that helps nonprofits and governments deliver aid with dignity, is seeking a talented Application Engineer to join our internal team of 5 (and growing!) to lead the technical implementation of our software for some of the largest direct cash and basic income programs in the nation. This role requires close collaboration with Program Managers to confidently clarify sometimes ambiguous requirements during the discovery phase with partners. You will work with our Platform Engineers to close any technical gaps and help us continuously improve our platform, ultimately configuring AidKit's low/no-code platform to meet our partners' needs.

Experience with JavaScript and SQL is desired but not required. Experience building survey instruments and quality assurance are high signals for this role.

We are growing rapidly and the opportunity for impact ahead is immense. We are supporting the largest Guaranteed Basic Income and direct cash assistance programs in the United States and seeing new and exciting ways to support people living in poverty with dignified aid every day.

About the Role

  • Collaborate closely with the program management and platform engineering team to configure AidKit’s software to best meet customer requirements.
  • Play a critical role in a program’s lifecycle: Design, Implementation, Testing, and Maintenance
  • Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments to evaluate potential solutions, determine viability, and anticipate challenges.
  • Perform software testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure the stability and performance of applications. (Tools include: Browser Developer Tools, Sentry, and AWS CloudWatch)
  • Drive resolution of critical issues for customers, partners, and beneficiaries, including root cause analysis and course corrections resulting in more efficient program implementation.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring excellent UX in collaboration with program managers and customers.
  • Identify areas where the current platform needs enhancement to optimally meet customer needs and translate custom development work to the platform engineering team.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand customer needs and assist in the creation of compelling proposals and presentations.
  • Support multiple programs simultaneously at different stages of their lifecycle
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and experimentation by contributing to or leading cross-functional efforts for platform and process enhancements. (Recent examples include: platform accessibility and technical resource documentation.)

About You

  • You are located and authorized to work in the US
  • We do not have a hard requirement for a number of years experience, we’re more interested in what you uniquely bring to the table to meet AidKit’s needs for this role.

  • Proficiency in SQL and/or Javascript strongly preferred

  • You have experience with Figma or other process flow design tools

About the Hiring Manager

Hector is an Application Engineer with a background in nonprofits and public policy. Hector spent the initial 1.5 years of his tenure at AidKit on the Software Engineering team before transitioning to lead the development of the Application Engineering team.

From environmental conservation to social services, Hector's focus has been on helping marginalized communities connect with the resources everyone needs to prosper.

And now, at AidKit, he has the opportunity to take this to scale every single day by empowering Application Engineers to build seamless programs to connect people with the resources they need while pushing the boundaries of what our platform is capable of.

Interview Process

Interview Screen

30 Minutes

You will speak with Hector and discuss your background, what’s important to you in your next role and any questions you might have about the role.

Practical Exercise Interview

45 Minutes

We will send you a small exercise to create an imaginary cash transfer program using our platform asynchronously (Compensated Exercise). Afterwards, you will meet with myself and 1 or 2 other Application Engineers to discuss your process.

You’ll also pick a project that you’ve had some-level of responsibility for in the past and walk us through the “story” behind that project. What motivated it? What were the major technical decisions and how were they decided? What was the resulting organization/architecture? What would you do the same or differently, knowing what you know now?

Final Interview with Hector and Senior Leadership

30 Minutes

You’ll meet with Hector and a few members of our Senior Leadership team to discuss fit

Reference Check

As part of our hiring policies we ask you to provide a reference who we can contact who can speak towards your work. Ideally, this is a past manager who we can speak with to understand how to best set you up for success at AidKit.

Compensation and Location

For this full-time position, you can work from anywhere in the United States. The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $130,000.
