POSITION DETAILS

The position of Art Coordinator for Exhibitions and Education at Hunter East Harlem Gallery (HEHG) is a full-time, 35 hours per week position coordinating with the Gallery Curator of the Hunter College Art Galleries (HCAG) and reporting to the faculty Director of the Hunter College Art Galleries.

The Art Coordinator administers day-to-day operations at the Hunter East Harlem Gallery in the Silberman School of Social Work. The 1200 square foot gallery is under construction and is scheduled to reopen to the public in 2025. This position will consult on the renovation, propose site-appropriate programming while the gallery is under construction, and work with stakeholders to plan for exhibitions and programming to be in place when the gallery reopens.

Ongoing responsibilities include:

-Collaborate with the Director of the Hunter College Art Galleries and the HCAG Gallery Curator, and, where appropriate, the Director of Arts of the CENTRO: Center for Puerto Rican Studies, to generate exhibitions and programming.

  • Provide administrative support for exhibitions and programs at HEHG, including strategy, planning, budgeting, exhibition logistics, hiring and supervising contractors.
  • Assist with leading community outreach for the Hunter East Harlem Gallery and the Hunter College Art Galleries, especially in the East Harlem area, building relationships with organizations, businesses, schools, and civic leaders.
  • Organize and execute internal outreach within Hunter College, liaising with faculty, students, and staff.

  • Work with the Gallery Curator and the Administrative and Development Assistant to assist with managing the gallery???s financial systems including expense tracking, procurement, and fundraising.
  • Supervise work study students, freelance gallery attendants, and interns at HCAG.
  • Coordinate HCAG social media with support from Communications Assistant.
  • Administer press list and outreach for all exhibitions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor???s degree required.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies, or similar, or Studio Art, and at least two years previous experience as a gallery curator.
