General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities

Under supervision the Asbestos Hazard Investigator performs asbestos hazard assessments and inspections. This role involves managing and coordinating asbestosrelated projects ensuring compliance with regulations and liaising with various stakeholders.

Examples of Typical Tasks

• Prepare task orders for inhouse asbestos abatement activities.
• Supervise consultants in the preparation of asbestos abatement scopes and design documents.
• Coordinate asbestos abatement projects in conjunction with ongoing construction and/or renovation projects.
• Act as a liaison with clients regulatory agencies contractors and construction inspectors.
• Maintain records and prepare detailed reports.
• In the absence of the supervisor may temporarily assume their responsibilities.

Qualification Requirements

• Valid certification as a Certified Asbestos Investigator issued by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection under Local Law 76/85 as amended.
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering architecture environmental health science or a related field and two years of satisfactory fulltime experience performing hazard/toxic substances assessment and/or managing engineering or technical contracts related to such assessments.
• Alternatively equivalent education and/or experience may be considered. Possession of a Professional Engineers License Registration as an Architect Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional may substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
• Must meet certain medical requirements.

License Requirement

• Possession of a Motor Vehicle Drivers License valid in the State of New York.
