Job Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two full-time Temporary Biological Sciences Research Technician 1 positions for the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, & Conservation Sciences at Oregon State University ( OSU ).
This position will be located in Paulina, Oregon
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Prineville District Office, and conservation partners in Central Oregon have been concerned about the declining greater sage-grouse population numbers in the Brothers/North Wagontire Priority Area of Conservation (Brothers PAC) region. Population numbers are declining more steadily in this region than surrounding areas. The Brothers PAC region is the western-most population of current sage-grouse range in North America. This edge of the distribution is being encroached by humans to the West as the municipalities of Bend, Redmond, and Prineville, OR continue to expand. The BLM and ODFW are collaborating with Oregon State University’s Hagen Lab (led by Dr. Christian Hagen) to conduct a six-year study to determine why this population is not exhibiting the resilience of the surrounding populations. This year marks the fourth year of this six-year study and our objectives are to determine current sage-grouse use areas, vital rates, and raptor and corvid presence.
These positions will be part of a field crew utilizing various survey methods for greater sage-grouse.
Oregon State University is an equal-opportunity employer. As such, we promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our research, in line with the values shared by the College of Forestry and College of Agriculture. FWCS is an academic unit that reports to the College of Agricultural Sciences. The Department is composed of approximately 300 staff, including academic faculty, research assistants, classified staff, graduate students, and temporary staff. Over $8 million of externally funded grants and contracts are received each year in support of science focused on basic ecological research, conservation, and sustainable use of fish and wildlife and their habitats. The Department is the largest in the College of Agricultural Sciences, with over 1000 students in 8 degree and certificate programs, including one Bachelor of Science degree, five graduate degrees, and two graduate certificates. We are a vibrant department that promotes a supportive “family” atmosphere for all students and employees.
