Job Description
General Summary
This role is responsible for providing ad hoc nursing leadership in a clinical capacity as needed. The clinical manager has authority to make decisions related to patient care.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Clinical Practice:
* Leads and manages nursing and clinical support staff who provide independent care to unit specific patient population.
* Oversees is and accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care.
* Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs.
Unit Operations:
* Approves charge nurse decisions; advises staff who perform charge role for assigned shifts as needed.
* Follows and supports the AACN guidelines for Healthy Work Environment (communication, collaboration, effective decision making, recognition, leadership, staffing); participates as team member focusing on elements within the Healthy Work Environment.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
* Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Maryland is required; BSN or related field is required.
* Five (5) years nursing experience. Minimum of one year Supervisory experience required.
* Current CPR certification required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Demonstrates highly effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrates leadership qualities through effectiveness as nurse manager, charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource.
* Demonstrates effective leadership to a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability use of computer systems in order to manage patient information.
* Ability to lead team-building efforts on units; supports and models teamwork
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
Patient Safety
Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.
* Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
* Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
* Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
