Job Description

The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

LA28, the organizers for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, is on a mission to create an unparalleled Games experience for athletes, fans, partners, our community and our people. Director, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging:

The Director, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) advances DEIB across the LA28 enterprise. They will be responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure of resources that will drive DEIB within strategic goals and initiatives in LA28. Reporting to the SVP, Human Resources, they will act as the LA28 DEIB thought leader in partnership with business leaders and teams throughout the organization to influence actions, inform plans and guide the organization.  They will support the internal ideation and execution of DEIB practices that will create impact for the organization of LA28. They will collaboratively build solutions, integrating measures of success, and provide tactical support to execute solutions and communicate progress. They will be instrumental in developing a culture of inclusion and belonging that attracts a network of diverse talent to join LA28, amplifying our mission to create an unparalleled experience for athletes, fans, partners, our community and our people, elevating and empowering Los Angeles’ diverse workforce beyond the 2028 Games.  

Key Responsibilities:

Provide deep subject matter expertise and DEIB counsel to problem solve, design and deliver solutions and partner with leaders across LA28 on enterprise-wide initiatives, primarily including People, Commercial Partnerships, Procurement, Policies, Marketing and Communications. Additional external relations will include Community Relations and Impact. 

  • Partner with functional teams to find solutions that elevate DEIB internally and externally with employees, athletes and fans, and with LA28’s commercial and community partners. 
  • Partner with talent acquisition to create and implement LA28’s strategy for recruitment, hiring, advancement and retention. 
  • Partner with Communications, Marketing, Sales and External Affairs teams to integrate DEIB programs and messaging across the business.  
  • Collaborate with sourcing and procurement to support LA28’s equitable procurement and supplier diversity program, including reviewing RFPs and contracts for commitments to DEIB. 
  • Work with HR and Legal to develop, refine, promote and uphold workplace and business practices with DEIB as guiding principles. 
  • Collect, analyze, and leverage data to inform decision-making and track progress toward specific DEIB goals. 
  • Develop and establish the framework for internal DEIB forums and councils, engaging stakeholders to drive relevant, timely business strategies and solutions. 
  • Devise a system for capturing and reporting workforce metrics, including a dynamic internal dashboard, using LA28’s HRIS data, conducting routine audits of DEIB practices and tracking key performance indicators to provide regular reporting for internal and external use. 
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) in the areas of governance, KPIs, budget, annual planning, quarterly reporting, membership, and activations, evolving as the organization grows. 
  • Lead diversity education programs and services, including creating and delivering customized training programs, partnering with the learning and development function and external vendors/consultants [as apporpriate] to integrate DEIB principals into leadership curriculum.  
  • Engage staff to develop their skills and expertise in DEIB and support the integration of DEIB into everyday practices. 
  • Create and implement communication strategies and content management for training, campaigns, and web resources (internal and external audiences) to support DEIB initiatives on various platforms.             
  • Enhance employee engagement and internal culture by developing programs that drive and nurture DEIB and create intentional outreach and connection with people across the organization.

Background & Qualifications:

  • Proven track record as a DEIB leader in an organizational setting 
  • Strong understanding of a wide breadth of DEIB topics including anti-racism, disability inclusion, LGBTQIA issues, gender, and more 
  • Ability to partner with and influence business and HR leaders to gain their commitment and support to successfully drive large scale organization initiatives  
  • A deep passion for creating inclusive spaces and helping people thrive 
  • Ability to seamlessly navigate between strategic ideation and tactical results-driven execution. 
  • Experience in driving cultural and organizational change, including the ability to assess organizational readiness, anticipate and implement strategies to overcome barriers.

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field required 
  • Master’s degree or equivalent and/or DEIB certifications preferred

The annual base salary range for this position is $150,000.00 - $170,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
