POSITION SUMMARY: Nurture curiosity through purposeful experiences to create a future full of lifelong learners. Help to meet the diverse needs of our families in our program. Implement Reggio-Emilia Inspired Approach while bringing joy, warmth, patience, and understanding to the teachers in the classrooms every day, encouraging teachers to learn and grow. Inspiring teachers and children to be lifelong learners, implementing curriculum that promotes social, emotional, physical, verbal, and cognitive development. Committed to making the school successful and know that creating meaningful relationships with staff and children play a crucial role in that success.

Education coaches work to improve teaching practices as well as strengthen the program's overall professional development efforts. Possessing unique knowledge, skills, and competencies. Instructing teachers through the planning, organizing, and implementation of high-quality education for young children. Provide intense and less intensive coaching to teaching staff in identified areas. Provide all teaching staff support in the delivery of high-quality education services. Performs all job responsibilities in a safe manner. Complete duties with a positive attitude and with the intention of Paladin's success. Implement positive discipline strategies, and Progettazione when planning and assisting teachers in the classroom environment. Model quality interactions with teachers and children daily. Build collaborative relationships to mentor colleagues. Includes any other duties to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, or support our organizational values.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL ABILITIES AND PROCESSES:

1. Ability to create a positive working environment with staff.

  1. Physical capability, strength and coordination adequate to work with preschool children including, kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor.
  2. Required computer literacy: Word processing, database, Internet, spreadsheets, and e-mail.
  3. Ability to visually assess the health and behaviors of children.
  4. Frequent significant decisions to assure developmental progress of children.
  5. Demonstrated ability to mentor/coach teachers and ensure a safe learning environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in classroom and outdoor play areas.
  6. Ability to utilize coach preparation time effectively, refrain from engaging in personal business.
  7. Ability to exercise professional conduct in the workplace. Conduct oneself with decorum while representing Paladin.
  8. Ability to respond appropriately (both mentally and physically) to an emergency or a crisis situation.
  9. Uphold all responsibilities for mandated reporting as legally required by the State of Indiana.
  10. Assure that a positive image of Paladin is portrayed at all times.
  11. Occasional driving for training and job responsibility requirements.
  12. Occasional lifting in excess of 50 lbs., occasionally placing children into seats and ability to carry or drag a child in an emergency situation to a safe area.
  13. Occasional climbing steps to enter and exit bus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mentoring

1. Mentor, coach, and provide feedback to teachers in the classroom setting regarding developmentally appropriate instruction and professional development.

2. Provide resources and support to new/less experienced early childhood education staff.

3. Support early childhood curriculum and assessment in preschool classrooms.

4. Articulate curricular and assessment needs to education staff. Work with individual staff who need one-on-one support.

5. Partner with Education Director to develop individualized professional development plans for education staff.

Classroom Management, Intentional Planning, and Meaningful Assessment .

  1. Always provides a safe environment with supervision of children at all times, consistently applying active supervision and emergency procedures.
  2. Intentionally planning on-going experiences with teachers that enhance the cognitive, social, emotional, linguistic and physical development of young children.

3. Gather data to know your program's needs and expectations based on community, family, and child needs, program goals including school readiness goals, areas where education staff need support and would benefit from intensive coaching, your existing continuous quality improvement system.

  1. Endorse and coach teachers with implementing the Reggio Emilia Progettazione in alignment with NAEYC, Indiana Early Learning, and Head Start standards.
  2. Implementing developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques, including Conscious Discipline in alignment with Paladin's image of the child.
  3. Keep necessary reports and documentation, including but not limited to, assessment data and conference notes.

  1. Attend Parent Meetings.
  2. Build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with partners.

Professionalism

9. Engage in effective collegial relationships

  1. Interact with other staff using the highest standards of professionalism.
  2. Supports team by providing coverage for breaks, lunches, and illnesses as needed.
  3. Follow all agency policies and procedures.
  4. Organize time to allow for planning, preparation, and conferences with teachers.
  5. Responsive to management feedback. Demonstrate a willingness to implement new strategies.
  6. Provide customer service in reception, greet, and direct visitors at the site.
  7. Perform other relevant responsibilities as required by the program or assigned by supervisor.
  8. Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe and welcoming office space.
  9. Model the respectful workplace policy when interacting with Paladin clients, community members, and colleagues.
  10. Must be responsible, able to handle confidential material, able to organize effectively and able to work independently.
  11. Assure that a positive image of the Paladin is always portrayed.

Training responsibilities

  1. Maintain current, valid driver's license and liability insurance at all times on any personal vehicle used to conduct Paladin business.
  2. Obtain and keep current Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications.
  3. Complete 15 credit hours in ECE and a minimum of 20 hours continuing education, based on individualized professional development plan.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. At minimum, a bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field as defined by the Head Start Policy and Regulations qualifications and competency requirements. 2. Ability to provide opportunities for intensive coaching to those education staff identified including opportunities to be observed and receive feedback and modeling of effective teacher practices directly related to program performance goals.3. Ability to provide opportunities for education staff not identified for intensive coaching to receive other forms of research-based professional development aligned with program performance goals.

  1. Ability to facilitate workshops and training sessions for early childhood.
  2. Valid Driver's License and access to a privately-owned vehicle with liability insurance for use in completing work responsibilities as required.
  3. Good verbal and written communications skills.
  4. Must have Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certifications within 30 days from date of hire.
  5. Bilingual in English and Spanish desirable, but not required. The primary language in the workplace is English.
