As a Fleet Maintenance Manager at Tortuga, you'll work to keep our fleet of fruit harvesting robots operational in a harsh environment. This involves learning how to rapidly diagnose and help to fix problems as they happen, or even before they happen. You'll work within the fleet maintenance team in the CA and the hardware team in Denver to help develop, test, and roll out proactive and reactive fixes for the robots that are running. You'll work closely with the operations team on site to keep their robots up and operational.

What you'll do: - Keep our robotic fleet up and operational, fixing and doing maintenance work on standard electrical and mechanical components
- Work as part of our fast-moving operations team to identify and track issues, capture critical data, and rapidly problem solve robotic problems across operations, controls, software, and hardware
- In conjunction with engineering, develop ideas and fixes that can improve our robots uptime and productivity in the field
- Act as liaison between fleet ops team in CA and Denver HW, Fleet, Ops on matters related to tech
- Manage and track service bulletins and retrofits
- Manage and prioritize the maintenance and repair operations including the work of other technicians
- Identify issues new and unknown
- Maintain and improve Maintenance KPIs for the CA team
- Represent the CA team in team initiatives related to Fleet Health and Maintenance projects
- Work and maintain the robots at an outdoor farm environment (no office or mechanical shop is established yet)
- Help build and maintain the future robot workshop and office as we scale up
- Fabricate quick solutions to operational challenges, for example ramps and fixtures out of wood, steel and other common materials
What we're looking for: - Required : At least four years of professional work experience in a similarly complex maintenance role
- Required : Exceptional ability to learn, troubleshoot, and problem-solve across hardware, software and firmware subsystems
- Required : Exceptional communications ability, ability to read technical (electrical schematics and CAD images and drawings) schematics in engineering and English
- Preferred : B.S. Engineering or relevant degree, with exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines, Masters degree in similar disciplines preferred
- Preferred : Prior experience with robotic applications and/or computer vision and machine learning
- Nice to have: Experience with Linux, ROS, and/or issue-tracking software (e.g. Jira);
- Nice to have: fluent in Spanish
- Nice to have: Prior experience with networking
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of our wage range for this position. Actual wages may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Tortuga's total compensation package for employees.
Santa Maria and Nipomo, CA base wage range: $82,000 - $122,000 per year.
Please note you must be authorized to work in the United States for this position; we are unable to hire candidates needing sponsorship at this time. Your principal place of work will be at the customers' farm in Nipomo, CA. You may be required to travel to Denver and the United Kingdom, as shall be necessary for the performance of your role and responsibilities.
