Summary

The Scientist develops new product formulation from benchtop to commercialization for the company brands, customer private labels and Food Service customers with guidance. He/she works closely with Sales and Marketing for guidance and project management. This role also supports the Operation and QA team for product and process improvement. Purchasing works with the associate scientist to qualify alternate suppliers or ingredients. Marketing Services works with the Scientist for label accuracy review and mockup packaging.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Execution of assigned new product development, quality improvement, and cost optimization with guidance
• Formulate products from bench-top to commercialization within assigned commercialization date.
• Generate innovative food product ideas for branded, private label and Food Service opportunities.
• Work in close cooperation with Sales and Marketing team to best present innovative products to customers and drive customer focused development.
• Provide necessary technical support to customers, Operations and QA when needed.
• Conduct and document sensory evaluation of products.
• Record keeping of formulas, ingredients, plant trials and finished products
• Use Genesis to generate Nutrition Fact Panel and formula to specific nutrition and ingredient statement.Use of ERP system for ingredient and formula maintenance
• Review product labels
• Stay up to date on product trends to design relevant innovative products.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in food science or related field
• Experience 4-10 years in Food product development
• Proven track record of successful product development from concept to commercialization
• Solid organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects and assignments
• Experience in formulating refrigerated products is a plus
• Willing to learn and share learning
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Respect confidentiality of privileged information
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Genesis and Navision are helpful)
