Division/Department Information

The Division of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security in The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies at St. John's University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, to begin in fall 2024. The Collins College of Professional Studies (CCPS ) has the largest undergraduate student body within the University and serves close to 4000 students in 28 undergraduate and 4 graduate level programs. The Division of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security has a dynamic practitioner/academic faculty division and provides the following relevant programs: Criminal Justice and Homeland Security majors and minors at the undergraduate level and growing graduate programs, including a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership and a developing innovative Doctor of Professional Studies (DPS) doctoral program in Homeland Security. Faculty focus on key areas of skill development that include critical thinking, oral and written expression, team membership, leadership and employability readiness. Responsibilities

The Division is looking for candidates who can support program growth, provide leadership and curricular programming, and teach across all four of the Division's programs. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy, be able to integrate technology into teaching using simulations software and techniques for real data analysis, both face-to-face, online and hybrid modes. The Homeland Security Simulation Center will offer student opportunities to apply coursework learning to realistic situations they may face. Candidates engage primarily in teaching and will support core and elective courses for a diverse array of students. Our faculty engage in professional and program development and assessment and service to the University and broader community. Professional activities including consultation, presentations, research and writing for the academic or professional community are expected. Student advisement and active participation in departmental and college events and committees will be required.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a terminal degree in criminal justice, homeland security or a related and relevant discipline. Candidates possessing a JD who have gained admittance to a state bar association are invited to apply as well. Special consideration will be given to candidates who possess professional practitioner experience in either or both Criminal Justice or Homeland Security disciplines. Research based teaching experience at the university level is preferred .

Preference will be given to candidates who can support the growth of graduate and doctoral programs and provide leadership and curricular programming in the new simulation and homeland security labs. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy, be able to integrate technology into teaching, using simulations software and techniques for real time data analyses, and use face-to-face, online and hybrid modes. Additional elements of knowledge of emergency management, global security dynamics and issues, cyber security, investigative services, data mining, information assurance, predictive analytics are welcome. Candidates must show evidence of teaching excellence, professional and scholarly activity, student engagement and a strong commitment to service. Participation in division, college and university governance is expected.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $76,000 - $81,000.
