Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Compliance Program Attorney to join our Washington, DC, office. This role will assist our health care clients, including federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), behavioral health organizations, federal grantees, and nonprofit organizations, in navigating complex regulatory and operational requirements.

The Health Care Compliance Attorney will work closely with clients to develop, implement, and monitor compliance programs aligned with federal, state, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in health care and corporate compliance programs, with additional experience in HIPAA Privacy, the Breach Notification Rule, the Omnibus Rule, and related federal and state privacy laws ( e.g. , 42 CFR Part 2).

The ideal candidate will have at least 5-7 years of health care privacy and compliance experience (relevant legal or in-house compliance/privacy experience may substitute), strong analytical and communication skills, and a client-centered approach to supporting both preventive compliance efforts and regulatory responses.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on the implementation of compliance programs that meet state and federal standards ( e.g. , OIG Compliance Program Guidance).
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments, audits, and gap analyses for clients.
  • Draft, review, and implement client compliance policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Investigate potential compliance breaches and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in laws and regulations and advise accordingly.
  • Assess clients’ level of compliance risk and provide prioritized, actionable recommendations.
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement client privacy programs consistent with HHS OCR and other governing bodies’ standards.
  • Develop and deliver client training sessions and workshops on compliance and privacy best practices.
  • Draft client alerts, articles, and other content for the firm's website and client communications.
  • Identify new service opportunities and support revenue growth through delivery of solutions and advisory services.
  • Provide internal and external thought leadership regarding legislative and regulatory developments impacting healthcare organizations.

Qualifications

  • Strong academics credentials including a J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) and/or Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing corporate compliance programs, including drafting and implementing policies, conducting training, auditing, monitoring, and investigating.
  • Prior compliance experience within a law firm, consulting firm, or in-house legal/compliance department preferred.
  • Strong Knowledge in HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, the Omnibus Rule, Breach Notification Rule, and state privacy laws preferred.
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously.
  • High ethical standards and demonstrated professional integrity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel to meet client needs (estimated up to 25%).
  • Active license to practice law in the District of Columbia or eligible to waive in.

The good faith base salary range for this position is $115,000 to $175,000 per year. The actual salary rate offered to candidates within that range will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, years of relevant experience, education, and the candidate's overall qualifications for the position as assessed by the Firm.
