Title: Human Resource Generalist

Shift: Day shift, 7am - 5pm M-F in office

Salary: $60k-$80k (depending on experience)

Location: Austintown, OH

Human Resource Generalist Role:

The Human Resources Generalist provides professional-level administration for all aspects of the Human Resources (HR – approximately 90%) and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS – approximately 10%) functions to achieve company objectives for an employee-centric, high-performance, and safety-first culture. These activities include a wide range of HR generalist activities and EHS administrative support.

This position will manage, perform, and coordinate a variety of activities throughout the organization which requires the highest degree of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism. This position will use judgement and discretion to make decisions outside of specific policies within the scope of the role.

Human Resource Generalist Responsibilities:

  • Records, maintains, and administers employee information necessary to ensure accurate employee records and compliance with HIPPA privacy, EEO, OSHA, and other government regulations and company policies, providing the highest level of confidentiality; uses secure systems to transmit required information to other departments and entities (ShareFile or other secured file-sharing mechanism).
  • Enters and/or audits new hire information and changes to employee information through established methods in software and/or employee files, communicating information to other departments, as appropriate; ensures accuracy and timeliness.
  • Provides administrative support for company or external audits as related to employee information (including, but not limited to, training documentation, payroll, 401K auditing/testing, etc.).
  • On a scheduled or ad hoc basis, generates reports through report writing software and/or spreadsheets to provide data analytics regarding a variety of employee-related topics (for example: attendance, safety incidents/near misses, workers’ compensation claims, training schedule adherence, policy acknowledgements).
  • Monitors employee timekeeping activities throughout the pay period to ensure timely and accurate processing for payroll and attendance management purposes.
  • Provides back-up support to the Human Resources Manager for the timekeeping function and payroll processing in periods high activity or planned/unplanned absences.

  • Meets on-site attendance requirements to effectively build positive relationships and interact with all employees.
  • Travels as required to attend meetings, educational sessions, and provide HR support for related activities (approximately 10%).

About You:

  • Preferred education is at minimum: Associate degree or technical certificate in Human Resources, Organizational Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Bachelor degree (or in process) is a strong plus. Significant experience (7+ years) in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Entry-level to mid-level knowledge of core human resources functions (HRIS, benefits, payroll, employee relations and engagement, etc.)
  • Entry-level (exposure to) knowledge of safety in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and decision-making
  • Critical thinking skills to solve issues and foresee possible outcomes and consequences
  • Ability to objectively balance priorities to achieve desired outcomes when working cross-functionally
  • Continuous improvement orientation to support positive change; optimistic
  • Adaptability and resilience to work effectively in a fast-paced and change-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of internal and external partners in a positive and professional manner

  • Ability to develop professional collateral materials (hard/soft copy) and social medial content (with guidance)
  • Strong planning, organizational skills; exceptional detail orientation
  • Proficient written/verbal communication skills; read/write fluent English
  • Ability/desire to learn new skills and technologies
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a human resources administrative position in a mid-size organization
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment (in any capacity – exposure to manufacturing
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience project-managing and coordinating activities and events, both internally and externally
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working cross-functionally and managing competing priorities
  • A minimum of 2 years working with a diverse workforce
