Insurance Agent
(Account Manager I)

SUMMARY: Agents primary duty is to sell life, property, casualty, health, automotive, or other types of insurance. Agents are responsible for the promotion of the Field and Main Insurance products and services and assists in the training of Field and Main Bank's retail products and services.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- College degree or equivalent insurance sales work experience required.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in an insurance sales environment.
- Demonstrated ability to sell and cross-sell products and services.
- Broad knowledge of insurance industry & ability to apply & develop innovative industry advances or changes in products.
- Must be licensed or able to obtain Kentucky Department of Insurance Licensing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sell various types of insurance policies to businesses and individuals on behalf of insurance companies, including automobile, fire, life, property, medical and dental insurance or specialized policies such as marine, farm/crop, and medical malpractice.
- Customarily and regularly meet with clients face-to-face, outside the office and in the office to sell insurance policies and products
- Interview prospective clients to obtain data about their financial resources and needs, the physical condition of the person or property to be insured, and to discuss any existing coverage.
- Call on policyholders to deliver and explain the policy, to analyze insurance programs and suggest additions or changes, or to change beneficiaries.
- Responsible for originating their own sales and developing their own client lists by contacting or networking with current or prospective clients and by developing and maintaining relationships with sources of leads and referrals.
- Customize insurance programs or policies to suit individual customers, often covering a variety of risks.
- Explain features, advantages and disadvantages of various policies to promote sale of insurance plans, including the costs, monetary values or returns, death benefits, and risks of each.
- Calculate premiums and establish payment method.
- Inspect property, examining its general condition, type of construction, age, and other characteristics, to decide its insurance risk.
- Perform administrative tasks, such as maintaining records and handling policy renewals as necessary to service the customer.
- Select a company that offers the type of coverage requested by the client to underwrite a policy.
- Assist bookkeeping with commission statements.
- Engage in developing marketing strategies to compete with other individuals or companies who sell insurance.
- Confer with clients to obtain and provide information when claims are made on a policy.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
- Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, direct mail, in writing, telephone or electronic communication sources.
- Other projects determined by management.
