About the Role: We are looking for a Leave of Absence Specialist to join our growing team! The Leave of Absence Specialist will oversee leave requests and accommodations, in collaboration with a third-party administrator and HR Business Partners, particularly those arising under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local leave laws, and short-term or long-term disability plans.
Main Responsibilities: •Facilitate communication and support between employees, managers and HR regarding needs for leave and/or work accommodations under ADA, ensuring that employees are aware of their responsibilities and any notice or documentation required to qualify for leave.
•Performs pay calculations on behalf of approved leaves for weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles, considering local policies and state-issues benefits
•Maintains communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work from FMLA, workers' compensation, or other leave(s).
•Advises managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers' compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
•Provides consultation as needed toward company time-off programs in accordance with internal policy and applicable laws.
•Drafts and/or recommends revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
•Collaborate with third-party administrator to ensure compliance regarding complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests
•Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
•Stays up to date and brings forward developments of applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Who we are looking for: •Extensive knowledge of leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and applicable state and local laws.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
•Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
•Experience in disability and leave administration required.
•SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
•Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration a plus.
