Job Description

Primary Function:

Meals on Wheels provide nutritious meals and daily contact from dedicated staff and over one-hundred volunteer drivers to deliver meals to roughly 400 homebound seniors, on specified routes, Monday through Friday. The program supports independence while promoting the social, physical, and emotional well-being of seniors.

Under the supervisor and coordination on the Meals on Wheels Operations Manager, the Meals on Wheels Kitchen Coordinator oversees the day-to-day standard operation procedures within our Vero Beach Meals on Wheels kitchen, including but not limited to receiving and verifying daily meal delivery, coordination of meals on wheels kitchen aid volunteers, and health and sanitation of kitchen to IRC health department standards

  Principal Responsibilities:

These are examples of the type of work performed. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind work assignments as needed.

• Receiving and verifying daily meal delivery from the contracted vendor.
• Maintaining and recording temperature logs regarding meals and kitchen equipment.
• Verify and sign vendor meal forms and send them to MOW Operations Manager.
• Communicate with Meals on Wheels Kitchen Volunteers.
• Delivery meals to any unassigned or emergency routes.
• Rotation of shelf stable items and frozen meals.
• Prepare next-day route boxes.
• Sanitize and maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment.
• Ensure kitchen is compliant with Indian River County Health Department codes.
• Assist with the Pet Meals on Wheels program inventory and distribution to volunteers

• Follow all policies and procedures of Senior Resource Association and DOEA.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

License / Certifications:

• Valid Driver’s license, proof of car insurance and reliable transportation.
• Clean driving record.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds.
• Physical ability to manage stairs, walk to senior residences, and enter and exit your vehicle frequently within a 2-hour time period.

  Education and Experience: 

• High School Diploma
• Two years’ experience in either Non-Profit, Social Work, Social Services, Aging Programs, or related fields

About the Organization

Senior Resource Association (SRA) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that provides services to support and advocate for independence and dignity of older adults throughout Indian River County. Our organization was established in 1974 to provide services and programs that promote an active, healthy, and independent lifestyle for older adults. We provide and manage the Meals on Wheels of Indian River County programs, Adult DayAway programs, In-Home Services, and Transportation for seniors and their families. With two locations in Vero Beach and Sebastian, SRA operates the only state-licensed Adult DayAway programs in the County. Our goal is to keep seniors healthy and in their own homes for as long as safely possible. Due to memory loss, brain injury, food-insecurity, and/or lack of socialization, all families have a special need for their loved one that leads them to Senior Resource Association. SRA is recognized as the lead agency in Indian River County for homebound and community-based services for seniors and adults aged 18 and older.

In addition, SRA is the county-designated public transportation provider. Our fixed-route buses provide service along 15 routes throughout Indian River County, and part of St. Lucie County. Our demand-response service picks up the elderly and disabled at their specified origination point and takes them where they need to go in the community.
