Job Description The City of Burlington's Recreation & Parks Department is seeking a Fitness Room Trainer for the Kernodle Senior Center. Job duties would include managing the health and wellness programs for seniors 55 and older, supervising the operation of the fitness room including orientation for new members, conducting exercise classes, maintaining memberships and passes, and assisting with programs and special events. Additional duties include light housekeeping of the fitness rooms as needed, reporting any maintenance concerns, and maintaining fitness equipment. Safety among participants and staff is always a top priority.
Examples of Duties - Plan, develop, modify, and implement exercise programs for seniors ages 55 and older.
- Ability to convey direction and demonstrate the expected movements while monitoring the participants ability to function safely in the class.
- Trains participants regarding safe exercise equipment principles and techniques when utilizing the fitness room.
- Responsible for relaying any equipment damages or replacement needs to the Center Director.
- Maintain updated fitness room memberships, punch cards and waivers for participants.
- Maintain communication with center staff and director.
- Assist with daily housekeeping of the fitness rooms.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the City's safety policies.
- Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in dealing with staff, participants, and outside agencies.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: •Must be 21 years of age or older.
•Proof of or ability to complete First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required.
•Candidates with appropriate education or certifications and at least one year of experience delivering classes to senior citizens age 55 and over preferred.
Supplemental Information Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical Requirements - work in this position is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amounts of force constantly to move objects. Employee must have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
Working conditions may include both inside or outside working conditions; however, the majority of work is inside. Employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
