Plant Controller

Salary: $140,000 – $175,000

Location: Hopland, CA (Hybrid)

What You Will Be Doing

As the Plant Controller , you will oversee all financial operations of a manufacturing facility, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. You will provide financial leadership, drive cost control strategies, and support operational decision-making while managing a team of six (three direct reports, three indirect reports). Reporting to the VP of Accounting , you will play a critical role in shaping financial processes and optimizing plant performance.

Key Responsibilities:

✅ Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Lead all financial reporting, including the monthly reporting package and executive summaries.
• Conduct variance analysis comparing actuals to budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
• Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and present strategic recommendations.
• Own the balance sheet, month-end close process, and account reconciliations.
• Support external audits by preparing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance.

✅ Budgeting & Forecasting

• Drive the annual budgeting process and long-range financial forecasts.
• Develop and maintain financial models for capital investment and operational planning.
• Track and report on capital expenditure projects.

✅ Cost Accounting & Inventory Management

• Oversee plant cost accounting, including analysis of production costs, labor, materials, and overhead.
• Lead the annual standard cost-setting process.
• Monitor internal controls to ensure accurate cost data and inventory valuations.
• Analyze and report production variances across bulk, raw materials, and manufacturing costs.
• Ensure ERP master data integrity, including bulk, raw materials, and finished goods.

✅ Operational & Strategic Support

• Partner with plant leadership to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to optimize production efficiency and cost control.
• Identify and implement process improvements for enhanced financial and operational performance.

✅ Compliance & Internal Controls

• Ensure compliance with all regulatory reporting and filing requirements.
• Maintain and enforce internal financial policies and procedures.

✅ Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and develop the plant’s finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

What You Bring

✔ Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CPA or MBA preferred.
• Minimum 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, preferably in manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis .

✔ Skills & Competencies

• Deep understanding of manufacturing operations and cost structures .
• Experience with ERP systems (preferably JDE) and advanced Excel skills .
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
