About the Role - This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the world's leading health and wellness companies, assuming a key leadership role as a Principal Food Scientist within our Product Development team. You will expand your skills and experience across our Better-for-You Nutritional Sports Nutrition, Weight Management, and Healthy Snacking product lines. Responsibilities

  • Leads and supports product development and commercialization for new product launches and line extensions.
  • Leads development and commercialization of various , focusing on innovation within our Nutritional's business.
  • Formulates and optimizes products, demonstrating a strong understanding of nutritional composition.
  • Travels as needed to support projects and business objectives.
  • Tests and recommends alternative ingredients and/or processes to improve product quality and/or process efficiency.
  • Assists in working with co-manufacturers on product development projects.
  • Stays current on new ingredient and process technologies and develops specifications for new ingredients.
  • Evaluates data from testing and reports outcomes to cross-functional teams, identifying and communicating issues/risks.
  • Completes administrative tasks supporting project and departmental objectives.
  • Coordinates/communicates with the Execution Team to ensure smooth production start-ups.
  • Optimizes existing product formulas for cost savings and quality improvements.
  • Collaborates closely with Marketing to define product direction, establish priorities, and recommend new development ideas.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with hands-on food concept development, formulation, and laboratory and/or pilot plant equipment.
  • Ability to use basic formulation and laboratory skills (e.g., analytical balance) to create food and beverage products such as sports nutrition, weight management, healthy snacking, and instant drinks.
  • Strong understanding of food science, ingredient interactions, and the ability to apply this knowledge to solve formulation challenges with new ingredients in food and beverage products.
  • Ability to respond quickly to new and challenging formulation projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows-based programs.
  • Effective time management, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, vendors, contractors, and other business contacts.

Preferred Skills

  • Proven experience developing and commercializing innovative food products.
  • BS or higher degree in a food science discipline.
  • Innovative mindset and a positive approach to finding solutions.
  • Interest and general knowledge of the food and beverage and ingredient marketplaces.
  • Working knowledge of natural sweeteners and flavors.
  • Understanding of basic sensory test methodology and application.
  • Experience with powders is preferred.
