Looking for an opportunity to lead and build a team focusing on cell culture solutions team from scratch? Look no further! We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as the Principal Scientist Cell Culture. This role is located onsite at our Cambridge, MA location.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Spearhead the establishment and growth of the Cell Culture team within the facility. Drive recruitment efforts to assemble a talented team and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Provide mentorship to scientists, trainees, and interns within a matrix organizational structure.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging strategic research areas and innovative fields within the life sciences domain, with a strong emphasis on mammalian cell culture. Define project scopes based on market potential, internal capabilities, technological advancements, and potential collaborations with partner companies.
  • Lead and document the corresponding projects with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Active participation in the Cambridge innovation ecosystem, ensuring strong connection to local key opinion leaders.
  • Development and alignment of business cases for projects
  • Technology screening and IP analyses, as well as support in the generation of IP.
  • Assume responsibility for the seamless integration of developed business ventures into Evonik's existing business lines or their continuation within Creavis, in accordance with established business plans.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 7-10 years total experience in R&D, preferable in an industrial environment.
  • A PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, biology or adjacent fields. At least 5 years of experience leading an R&D team, preferably in an industrial environment.
  • Creative thinker in the field of mammalian cell culture with a track record of innovating in the field of protein production, in particular CHO, upstream development, media optimization and process development, ideally reflected by a strong publication record.
  • Proven track record in successful science and project management in relevant positions, ideally in the healthcare industry
  • Proven experience in leading and developing expert teams, with a focus on developing products and people, ideally also in starting a new group.
  • Proven track record in publication and academics.
