Job Description

The UCWCP Program Director will be responsible for overseeing the administration, management and strategic direction for the UCWCP aimed at supporting unionized contractors and union members who experience work-related injuries or illnesses. This role requires a strong leader who can ensure the Program's effective operation, maintain compliance with state and Program rules and regulations, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure fair, equitable and timely claim outcomes.

This is an exempt position with a compensation range of 150-200k per year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Program Management & Oversight

  • Lead, manage, and monitor the day-to-day operations of the Union Construction Workers' Compensation Program.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of program services and implement improvements to enhance service.
  • Ensure budget allocations align with service needs and sustainability.
  • Lead, mentor and support staff to ensure compliance with policies and maintain high service standards.
  • Monitor industry trends and legal changes affecting workers' compensation and proactively adjust program operations when needed.
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant workers' compensation laws, collective bargaining agreements, and union contracts.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Engage with current and potential employers to discuss member services and benefits, address service issues, and provide training on the proper use of program services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external industry partners, including insurance brokers, attorneys, and service providers.
  • Collaborate with Union and management association representatives to enhance their understanding of membership benefits and encourage greater utilization.

Reporting & Data Analysis

  • Develop and maintain program reports, including performance metrics, claims data, and financial tracking.
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to the Board of Trustees and executive leadership.
  • Analyze trends in workers' compensation claims to identify potential areas for program improvement or service implementation.

Conflict Resolution

  • Resolve high-level disputes using effective communication strategies and coordinated efforts to overcome interpersonal conflicts, barriers, and resource constraints.
  • Educate stakeholders on the rights and benefits under the Program.

Marketing, Communications & Networking

  • Participate in industry meetings, sponsorship events and special events to build relationships and promote the program.
  • Identify opportunities to communicate program updates, processes, and/or strategies to stakeholders.

Training & Education :

  • Provide training and support to all stakeholders on general workers' compensation information and Program policies and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver written and digital training materials to serve the diverse needs of our participants.

To perform the job successfully, an individual should have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in workers' compensation, employee benefits, insurance or a related field, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Extensive knowledge of Minnesota’s workers’ compensation system and claims processes.
  • Experience working with unions and understanding collective bargaining agreements, labor law, and workers' compensation regulations.
  • Ability to develop and present information to small or large groups in person or virtually.
