.Job Description
The Reference Librarian manages the library's daily operations and brings both leadership and innovation to the learning commons. In close collaboration with academic faculty, the librarian
identifies curriculum needs and opportunities, leads training sessions, conducts outreach to the Great Basin College community, and provides targeted support to foster student success. The
librarian stays actively engaged with new developments in library services, resources, and related areas, adapting seamlessly to evolving technological environments to enhance student support
effectively. This position is located on the Elko campus and oversees libraries at GBC Centers in Winnemucca, Ely, and Pahrump.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience providing reference assistance and providing classroom presentations/instruction.
Experience providing reference assistance and developing online instructional.
Experience working in and/or knowledge of library settings and operations, particularly libraries with a demonstrated track record of innovative design and approaches.
Proven success and experience with catalog maintenance and migration. Experience with ExLibris Alma/Primo preferred.
Demonstrated achievement in discovering and integrating current and emerging technologies.
Proven success negotiating prices and services with external vendors.
Demonstrated achievement or knowledge of how to achieve collection development in alignment with patron needs.
Experience successfully navigating accreditation and library-related processes and reporting (IPEDS, ACRL, etc.).
Experience in finding and deploying Open Educational Resources.
Demonstrated success in marketing library services.
Experience with customizing the ExLibris Primo discovery system.
Responsibilities
Serves students, including online-only students, dual credit students, and community members.
Collaborates with and participates as part of an active team in the development and execution of department/division projects, initiatives, and operations.
Provides creative vision and leadership to the development and management of the library's collection of resources, including current and emerging technologies, OERs, and shared resources.
Enthusiastically engages the GBC community in using library resources and services.
Proactively identifies challenges, barriers, and areas of opportunity related to library resources and services; creates and implements solutions.
Directs all aspects of cataloging, including cataloging software, materials, and collaborative partnerships with outside institutions and vendors.
Explores and moves forward all aspects of digital and technological resources, including negotiating prices, free trials and set up of new technologies; collaborative partnerships with outside organizations; maintenance and workflow of remote access for electronic resources and other related services.
Leads active and inquiry-driven data capture and analysis for internal and external reporting, including IPEDS, ACRL, department use, and related reports; shares findings to promote data-informed decisions.
Brings dynamic creativity to the development of the website through leadership and collaboration with department staff and the college’s webmaster; oversees creation, organization, and maintenance.
Promotes access and use of the college's digital archives system and related archival applications; curates and maintains content.
Builds and sustains trusted relationships with key college communities, including, but not limited to, participation in college committees.
Directs aspects of circulation, including inter-library loans, student checkout systems, inventory, and fines.
Provides support to reference services and other library-related activities, including supervisory support for part-time staff.
Assists in preparing the annual budget, particularly as it relates to collection development and library technology systems.
Seeks out and takes advantage of professional development opportunities and resources and applies knowledge to improve the department.
Ensures conduct, atmosphere, and environments support the department culture and vision.
Develops and determines engaging, applicable, and effective library services.
Develops effective working relationships with college employees and community partners that support the use of department and division services.
Participates in program assessment and program review.
Serves on college and NSHE committees.
Other duties as assigned.
Travel
The position may require driving to other GBC campuses, with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act, with possible overnight stays to coordinate students and programs throughout the service area. There must be a commitment to the GBC mission to serve rural Nevada. The successful candidate will participate in several state-wide or national meetings each year that require overnight travel.
Compensation Grade
Administrative Faculty – C
This is a 12 month “A” contract, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs.
The budgeted salary range for this position is $59,186 - $77,000. Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee’s spouse or domestic partner.
