Job Description:
We are seeking a proactive and self-motivated Life Insurance Underwriter to lead our automated underwriting and product governance functions. In this role, you will be integral to our automated instant-issue life insurance application platform, focusing on three main areas:
- Field Underwriting Support: Provide answers to underwriting-related questions from our customer support team, offer guidance on agent training, and contribute to the development of informational materials.
- Post-Issue Audit Support: Evaluate the underwriting performance of our engine and third-party data sources to ensure high standards.
- Underwriting Innovation: Drive continuous improvement of our underwriting model through rule adjustments, new data source assessments, and real-world performance analysis. Future responsibilities may include desk underwriting of digital applications that require additional review, including underwriting files and APSs.
You will work closely with carrier clients, including Chief Underwriters, and collaborate with our front-line helpdesk team, data and analytics, and product department. Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills are essential for this role.
Work Arrangement:
This position is fully remote but must be based in the United States.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience as a Life Insurance Underwriter
- Preferred experience with automated underwriting engines
- Familiarity with common underwriting data sources such as Milliman Irex, LexisNexis Risk Score, MVR, LabPiQ, Sherlock, MIB, and others
- Experience in product development and field underwriting support is highly desirable
- Passion for underwriting innovation, including experience in developing underwriting manuals, updating rules, and creating new standards
- Strong knowledge of the life insurance industry, its business processes, and products
- Self-starter with a passion for building great products and a willingness to tackle challenges independently and collaboratively
- Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
