POSITION TITLE: Truck Driver – Class C
STATUS: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: 5283 Transportation / Operations
REPORTS TO: Transportation & Yard Supervisor
SAFETY SENSITIVE: HIGH - This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to pre-employment, drug, and alcohol screening.
The starting wage for this position in $25.00 per hour

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB: Goodwill truck drivers are responsible for loading and unloading trucks as well as operating a box truck (most frequently 24’-26’) to facilitate the collection, delivery and transportation of donations to/from retail stores and donation sites safely and on time, and in a manner that maintains and promotes Goodwill's positive public image. Truck drivers will also be certified to operate forklifts and other machinery in Goodwill work environments.
This is primarily a driving position. It is anticipated that 50+% of time will be spent driving with the remaining time involved in the loading and unloading of trucks, supporting basic warehouse functions, and providing forklift services when requested.

PROVIDES SUPERVISION TO : None
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Performs daily inspection of truck equipment and supplies, per inspection checklist, resulting in daily vehicle inspection report prior to operating equipment.
- Operates vehicle in compliance with all federal, state, and GIRE regulations.
- Loads truck by appropriate means (forklift, etc.) according to guidelines.
- Pick up and deliver donated materials between stores, donation sites and storage facilities according to safety and donation guidelines.
- Pick up and dispose of trash from donation sites and stores to centralized location and/or landfill.
- Provide daily reports to supervisor on the general condition of the donation sites and stores, and reports any inconsistencies or inadequacies observed that, according to Goodwill guidelines, do not promote a good public image.
- Safeguards the property of Goodwill Industries.
- Completes necessary paperwork according to DOT and department guidelines.
- Maintain vehicles in a clean and neat appearance.
- Assures first aid and fire extinguisher for vehicles are adequate and work properly.

- Adhere to all agency policies and procedures.
- Report accidents, unsafe vehicles, or other unsafe conditions.
- Maintain a well-groomed, professional appearance.
- Conduct self in a courteous and professional manner
- Attend all scheduled meetings, including safety and online safety trainings.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Valid Class C California drivers' license required.
- DMV record with none of the following accidents/violations in the past year (must be acceptable to insurance carrier):
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Hit and run
- Failure to report an accident
- Negligent homicide arising out of the use of a motor vehicle
- Operating during a period of suspension or revocation
- Using a motor vehicle for the commission of a felony
- Operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s authority
- Permitting an unlicensed person to drive
- Reckless driving
- Speeding (3 or more in a 3-year period)
- Two or more preventable accidents in a 12-month period
- Minimum of five (5) years driving experience
- Previous experience driving large vehicles preferred ex; 26’ Box truck, Moving trucks, 5th wheel truck towing a trailer or camper, Cargo Van, Motorhomes, or similar type vehicles.
- HS diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to speak and understand English.
- Ability to interact well with co-workers and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Present a clean and well-groomed appearance.

- Current, unexpired forklift certification

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Owned and leased trucks, warehouses, stores, donation sites, parking lots, unpaved fields. Exposure to various noise levels both inside and outside of truck. Various walking surfaces to include concrete, asphalt, uneven dirt, grass. Exposure to all weather conditions/elements. Moderate to frequent interaction with the public, including donors, customers, and clients. Frequent exposure to moving/mechanical machinery.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent sitting, standing, walking. Continuous climbing, lifting, bending, stooping and grasping. Gross manual dexterity. Frequent pushing and pulling. Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and maneuver heavier weights using proper lifting techniques and safety equipment. Vehicle travel. Visual skills required.
