Description JOB PURPOSE: The Videographer works under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Marketing & Communications and the direction of the Video Producer. They also work with the Creative Director and the Social Media and SEO Strategists. Responsible for all aspects of video production, including meeting with constituents to determine their communications needs, developing concepts and script content, scheduling, filming, editing, and all finalizing to produce videos that serve client needs and reinforce the Lynchburg brand to internal and external audiences. The videographer is responsible for accurately developing and sharing the voice of the University of Lynchburg in an authentic and effective way. This position may also require A/V support in other areas as needed. The videographer should be a quick thinker and have a strong understanding of an ever-changing audience of teenagers, their parents, and alumni.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Conceives of and develops creative solutions for addressing institutional initiatives through audio-visual assets. Plans and organizes projects with the production of scripts, shot-lists, storyboards, etc. Produces, edits and distributes media content as required which may include photographs, motion pictures, motion graphics, animation, audio and music. Executes shoots on site/on location including lighting, audio, camera operation and talent direction. Additionally, handles assignments requiring special lighting, multiple locations, creativity, special audio needs, custom graphics, and animation. Executes shoots at live events including audio and camera operation. Edits and assembles final visual/audio program material creating compelling and visually interesting products; observes brand standards, ensures consistency and relevance to production; monitors technical quality of end product; creates photo galleries and slideshows with audio. Writes and produces photographic or video narratives; recommends, determines and procures type of talent needed for voice over work. Conducts interviews with students, staff, faculty, alumni and campus visitors and ensures that valuable sound bites are captured. Scouts shoot locations and assess possible obstacles in filming and provide solutions or alternatives. Maintains all equipment in proper working order including troubleshooting and minor repairs as necessary. Attends meetings and offers development and production insight based on the requests. Manages student-workers and assists in the hiring process for student workers. Creates effective thumbnails for YouTube. Sets up operates prompting equipment for video shoots and some live events. Assists Video Producer in tasks as assigned. Ability to write scripts is preferred. Strong oral communications to pitch ideas and communicate with everyone involved is important. WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to lift 60 lbs and in good shape to carry equipment around campus and beyond.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university or college, or a relevant industry certification, or a combination of education and experience. 3-5 years’ experience operating cinema cameras, video cameras, sound recording equipment, lighting, editing, and sound design. Excellent understanding of various audiences and the best practices to reach and connect with them. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator), knowledge in other professional editing software (Avid, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve) is welcome. Experience with digital workflows for images and videos Knowledge of live streaming platforms is a plus. Must be able to manage time/priorities and multi-task to handle both long term projects and those that require quick or aggressive turn-arounds. Knowledge of best practices for use of video, broadcast production techniques and standards, proper file storage and archiving. Excellent organizational, planning, problem solving, and time management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent presentation and storytelling skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Ability to work well under pressure. Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment. Ability to establish rapport with people of various professional backgrounds. Ability to use effective visualization and shooting concepts. Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments. Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and effectively. Proficient in the use of professional video and still cameras and related equipment. Must possess a positive and professional attitude. Must be creative and attention to detail.
