Job Description
We are hiring a Baker to join our team! You will be responsible for preparing baked items according to recipes to mix and bake ingredients to produce various baked items for the onsite café.
Here’s what a typical day may look like:
- Prepare breads, rolls, muffins, cookies, pies, cakes, doughnuts, biscuits, and other pastries, including icings and frostings, according to established recipes.
- Review production schedules to determine variety and quantity of goods to bake and to assemble supplies and equipment needed for daily baking activities. Completes production sheets and other records as required.
- Receive ingredients and other supplies from main kitchen and/or pantry as required for daily operations.
- Check equipment to ensure that it meets health and safety regulations and perform maintenance or cleaning, as necessary. Detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.
- Perform sanitation and food service cleaning to meet the required standards.
- Measure and weigh ingredients to prepare batters, dough’s, fillings, and icings, using scales and graduated containers.
- Cut and weigh dough into uniform portions with knife or divider, molds dough into loaves or other shapes, and places in pans; proofs dough and bakes in oven using peel; inspects product for quality during and after baking and makes adjustments to processes as required.
- Check the quality of raw materials to ensure that standards and specifications are met.
- Combine measured ingredients in bowls of mixing, blending, or cooking machinery.
- Apply glazes, icings, or other toppings to baked goods, using spatulas or brushes. Spreads or sprinkles a range of various toppings on specialty baked items.
- Shapes dough for cookies, pies, and fancy pastries either by hand or by using dough rollers and cookie cutters.
- May be required to prepare baked goods for special diets.
- Set oven temperatures and place items into hot ovens for baking.
- Cleans and maintains work areas, utensils, and equipment.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A minimum of 1 year related experience.
- Knowledge of maintenance and care of culinary facilities, equipment, supplies and materials.
- Knowledge of food preparation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
- Knowledge of food safety including understanding and utilizing (kitchen) sanitation requirements concerning food handling and storage.
- Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to stand for a long period of time.
- Must have, upon first day of employment a food handler’s certification card with the local regulatory agency.
