Job introduction
BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of around 360 million globally, including TV, digital platforms such as social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels.
All Language Services are multiplatform, including a multimedia website with a focus on digital video, text and interactivity for both desktop and mobile platforms.
The role is part of the Arabic Digital Production Hub.
Main responsibilities
• Work with bilingual correspondents, producing in the field at short notice
• Lead on commissioning and shaping ideas in collaboration with colleagues working on multiple platforms
• Script edit, package, and compile impactful content for digital, social, radio, and TV platforms
• Ensure all content complies with BBC Editorial Guidelines and legal obligations
• Ensure all assignments are appropriately risk-assessed
• Ensure suitable commissions are available in English for use by other languages
• Liaise with language services, bureaux, and output teams across the World Service and wider BBC News
• Help develop content from reporters and producers and pioneer new ways of working
Are you the right candidate?
• Excellent command of English and Arabic
• Highly skilled producer: calm, organised, and efficient, with proven field experience and sound editorial ability and creativity
• Good working knowledge of news systems and understanding of audiences and output for language services
• Ability to juggle competing demands and handle a constantly changing news agenda
• Familiarity with the roles of output and content teams (Planning/Digital Output/Assignment desk…)
• Proven experience in producing and planning digital-first text, vertical shorts, and social treatments
• Ability to adapt to different audiences and media, and work remotely with correspondents to develop their skills
• High standard of editorial judgement, writing ability, and production skills based on extensive journalistic experience
• Excellent record of producing on-the-day and planned digital video content, with strong SEO awareness for global audiences
• Ability to source, commission, and produce digital content for multiple language service audiences
• Proven ability in collaborative editorial team work
• Expertise in creating, overseeing, and subbing videos, with essential craft video production and editing skills and knowledge of emerging video trends
• Committed to inclusivity and prioritizing underserved audiences in all aspects of content creation and collaboration
